city of wells

Nestled in the heart of Patna is a hidden treasure trove of historical heritage, often overlooked – the ancient wells. These wells are like time capsules, intricately woven with the threads of bygone eras, preserving the echoes of time from the reign of Emperor Ashoka to the dawn of independence. They safeguard within their depths the stories of victories and challenges, of empires and revolutions. This documentary takes you on a captivating journey, delving deep into the historical significance of these wells. Each well represents a unique chapter, narrating stories of valour, culture, and transformation. From grand structures that once quenched the thirst of emperors to humble wells that served the common man, their stories weave a rich tapestry of Patna's historical canvas. However, the present paints a bleak picture. Many of these historical wells are either extinct or on the verge of extinction, threatened by neglect and urban development. Many of these historical wells remain uncharted in the vast sea of the internet. They stand as guardians of our past, urging us to protect these living relics of our shared heritage. We will discuss a total of 13 wells which are very famous in Patna and may or may not exist at present .

The main reason for wanting to make this film was that I am from that place, and a significant part of my childhood was spent there. Additionally, we used to hear the stories of these wells from our family members. These wells serve as symbols of the past and are currently in a deteriorated condition. Moreover, whatever remains of them is also at risk of being destroyed due to the modernization of the cities. After delving deeper into the facts, we also discovered that the names of many of these wells do not even exist in the pages of history books and are not available on the internet.
