Chacahuita
This is the story of a town in the Chacahua coast region, in Santa María Tonameca, Oaxaca. In this place, 22 years ago, its inhabitants joined forces to defend their wetlands from foreign company La Huerta, who wanted to set up a shrimp farm in 420 acres of communal lands. A cacique, who had seized these lands, sold them illegally.
With legal resources, protests and the support of some NGOs, everyone in town united to obtain a resolution declaring this territory a protected area.
Sadot, Margarito, Eusebio and Manuel tell us their story of struggle and about the current situation of the wetlands in Chacahuita.
