Chew Yun Han, also known by his nickname Chewing Gum was born and raised in Malaysia. His interest in film producing and directing came from a desire to craft ideas and bring ideas to life onto the big screen. He kickstarted his filmmaking journey at Sunway University in 2023, where he directed Sunshower, a short documentary following an elderly woman who struggles to provide for her dog shelter. With Sunshower, he made his film festival debut at the 2024 SeaShorts Film Festival. His current philosophy in filmmaking is “If we don't tell our own stories, nobody else will.”
Growing up in one of the most culturally rich states of Selangor, Malaysia, Chewing Gum has always been close to all kinds of stories. He puts a lot of emphasis on making his films truly “Malaysian” by incorporating aspects of his beautiful culture. Particularly, he finds it interesting and intriguing to document aspects of the rich Malaysian culture that are often overlooked as he finds that these often tell interesting and compelling stories.
