by division and differentiation
“by division and differentiation” is a speculative fiction or a document on the daily life as an outsider. Presented as video art, this project is the result of a residency program crossing scientific and artistic research that reveals imaging reflections, detected gestures, and alienated thoughts.

Carolina Grilo Santos (Aveiro, 1993) is a visual artist based in Porto, Portugal. Co-founder of Paralaxe, member of the independent studio/artist-run space Campanice, and research collaborator at i2ADS. She exhibits regularly since 2014, highlighting “Como plantar um penedo” (CCVF, Guimarães PT), “Devenir Isla - Inéditos 2022” (Casa Encendida, Madrid ES), "how to make a fossil in a single day" (Galeria Ocupa!, Porto PT), and the selection for national representation at "Notes on Tomorrow" - CreArt's Itinerant European Exhibition.
Carolina Grilo Santos has been exploring scientific concepts and languages from a speculative point of view, crossing artistic research and practice, geopoetry, astrophysics, geography, para-scientific theories, and personal memories. Creating her unique world, where science, imagination, doubts, and memories build segmented realities and truths, she has been working mainly on site-specific projects where intruder objects appear to disrupt logic or temporary micro-universes are created and lagged from reality.
