As a FILMmaker, I love pieces from the classic to Shakespeare. From painting, I am much fond of the impressionist, German expressionist, and surrealism. Speaking of music, I love the classics from Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and a mixture of the classics and rock music. My previous works have in common where I want to create the look of German Expressionism. I am also deeply inspired by art movements of the Renaissance period and Baroque. These art movements enable for me to apply a vivid color palette and help me create an interesting protagonist, an ambiguous character in gender that underscores describe of my visual world where the distinction between the reality and dream blur. I am also greatly obsessed with the twins. The twins’ story and the concept of mirroring, frame within frame structure explore my great interest in finding the connection between idealism and symbolism.
First, my project deals with one of my devotions, my religious belief. As a Catholic, I am so inspired and obsessed with religious symbolism. Throughout my project, I delve into religious contexts where they associate with the meaning of numbers, the meaning of colors and how to decode those meanings. I painstakingly dissect, demystify and revalue my own process of filmmaking that I have learned from the predecessors and create my own brand. My project associates with mythology and intellectual aspect of human mind. I also apply the Hegelian philosophy of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis into the FILMmaking process.
My project is a visual showcase of my obsession in German Expressionism and Japanese Manga. In order to keep creating a consistent look of my project, I insist to shoot on FILM. The use of FILM provides me an original and the most natural color that underscores an inner psyche of my characters that I create. Creating my own story and the visual look, I use vivid colors. I also create uncanny camera angles, and with the provocative and original way of framing will explore my theme of creating the surrealism where the reality and dream blur. Another reason I insist to shoot on FILM is this authentic esthetic and the depth of thinking process will create my own brand that nobody has. Creating the original content that consists of the multi-facet character, culturally integrated between the Eastern and the Western philosophy would distinguish me from other artists.
The Mirror expresses and underscores my obsession with the subject matter of twins. I especially find a strong interest in the unique relationships between the twins when they communicate each other and how the communication affects people around them. I want to show and tell a story that contains different endings that manifest as a result of inspiration from the circle of nature and life.
Through the Mirror, I want to showcase my unique ability in writing where my creativity of writing meets both Western culture and Eastern philosophy. I also need some professional help and advice in finalizing my screenplay. Then I move into filming my screenplay. With my visual look that has been heavily influenced by German Expressionism, the Mirror leads the audience to participate and anticipate the entire time of watching the FILM. I sincerely hope that my puzzling and sophisticated way of storytelling structure will strike the core idea of wonder and enhances a critical thinking process of the audience.
My approach to FILMmaking is an amalgam between an intellectual process of thinking and an outcome between visual and cerebral stimuli. I would like to use my FILM as a source of education and a case study where the capacity of the human intellectual domain and imaginative realm grow beyond the notions of society, geography, culture, and norm among races, ethnicities. I sincerely hope and wish that my journey and odyssey would reach beyond my personal agenda of becoming a celebrity and a famous FILMmaker.
