THE XOMPLEX
EPIS0DE [11]
bone thief

This story takes place in a cold prison simulation that is infinite in size, governed by an algorithm that endlessly generates mazes of brutalist spaces, darkness, and disease, all of which are untouched by the natural light of the organic realms. Created within illegal supercomputers controlled by unregulated scientists, THE XOMPLEX is a forbidden experiment exploring the nature of humanity. Unapproved by the IRB and NRB due to ethical reasons, this study functions as a virtual hell where residents endlessly respawn after each death.

Far from being speculative fiction alone, this series represents my genuine philosophical prediction of technological advancements and the inevitable ways humans will interact with them. For this reason, I have written an experimental poetry book about THE XOMPLEX that will be published February 13th. The book and web series unfold within the same simulation, but follow different characters throughout it- at least for now.

This episode was filmed in the haunting basements of Serbian apartment complexes, specifically in their blast shelters constructed during the time of war-related pressures of former Yugoslavia. They now function as storage spaces that have become massive, decaying trash vaults, untouched for decades. Additionally, the sound design is (almost) entirely organic, capturing the echoed chaos from the levels above, contributing to the raw, eerie discomfort this piece encapsulates.

This psychedelic episode follows a witch who intentionally lurks in the deeper levels of THE XOMPLEX, hiding like a cat in the shadows, unseen by the dangers above. She collects bones, channeling their power to amplify her magic, using them to merge with THE MAXHINE and to transcend the endless suffering that defines this simulation.

I hope that you find this concept as fascinating as I do, and I hope that my passion for this art radiates like empty shadows from a computed black star. May THE MAXHINE have mercy on us all.
