Block And Censor
In China, there is a long history of a 'cancel culture' structured through censorship, where behaviors and ideas deemed 'stand in opposition to the dominant culture' are not only likely to disappear altogether, but are also subject to social exclusion, attack and stigmatize.
Chinese filmmaker Fan Popo uses a documentary to tell the story of the resistance of marginalized communities, yet his documentary has also suffered a 'cancellation'. But he didn't hold back as most Chinese filmmakers do, he wanted to see how far one-man's resistance could go in this systemic tyranny.
An oppressive regime is not achieved by a single dictator, nor can it be achieved by a single department; rather, it is achieved by a complex series of systemic networks of relationships - a network in which all nodes have their own aims, interests and practical benefits, and are coalesced by common interests, which is how tyranny is formed.
Ultimately, what did Fan Popo experience from it?
