In 1987, as a member of the "Brazil Solidarity Group of Innsbruck", I was invited to visit the sugar cane workers of Amaraji and Primavera, Pernambuco, in the Northeast of Brazil, and their Workers' Union. From the film scenes I shot at that time I mounted a new film full of my memories, from the daily hard work in the sugar cane fields to the statement of a landworker's widow whose husband was shot by a large landowner, and finally to the protests during a workers' strike against all those injustices.
The Brazilian National Soccer Team is involved because of the solidarity they showed with the poor in their country, and the Brazilian Anthem is played in the northeast Brazilian Forró-style.
