Bucharest International Dance Film Festival is a platform for exquisite films that use movement as their main language or the body as their main subject. Faced with the camera lenses the body becomes the main focus of cutting edge art house films with a sometimes transparent and sometimes coded meaning, challenging the viewer to a playful exchange of information about social life, politics, extreme emotions, interesting places and oddly beautiful aesthetics.

BIDFF encourages syncretism and dialogue between movement and the diverse forms of cinema from the most traditional to experimental, animation, musical or video art. Besides the screenings, BIDFF organizes panels, exhibitions, public presentations and production labs. The festival takes place in multiple locations in Bucharest in September each year.

Within a surprising and meaningful coincidence, as we are all confronting the global pandemic, utopia|dystopia is the theme of the BIDFF in 2020. This fragile balance could generate creative or critical strategies to present or to contemplate the world and the future, as they are or as they will become. The BIDFF curatorial approach goes towards trying to decipher, shape, transform or revolutionize these concepts.

The competitional section is dedicated only to short films and is divided into 3 sections: International, Romanian and Musicals. The board will take into considerations fiction, documentary, animation and musical films, that either use movement to explore an idea, either speak about issues related to the body and the world of dance.
