Before I Die

“Before I die” is a non-fiction about an Environmentalist who, from his childhood days, was fascinated by the beautiful landscape of Nature. The healthier Environment that he had seen during childhood was now taken over by the human harshness. The surge in the Environmental Pollution made him feel distraught and it ached deep inside. This very Ache led him to conceive the Movement, “Remove Litter, Plant Flowers”, 13 years back.

“Before I die” is a Journey from the conception of this Movement, to its implementation, to its expansion despite ruthless challenges. It shows a permanent Solution to a crucial Problem affecting our Planet and survival and well-being of its inhabitants.

This Film also reveals the disastrous consequences of the Flora and Fauna going extinct and shows many species returning to Life post this Movement.

The Movement “Remove Litter, Plant Flowers” aims to replace Garbage with Flowers. Once saplings are planted, people stop dumping Garbage at those places and instead plants begin to grow there. It has come a long way, from distribution of 20,000 free saplings in one year to daily distribution of saplings in crores.

This Film is a story of resilience in the face of protests, social boycotts, physical attacks, humiliation and scarce resources. It’s a story of manic craziness of Dr. Ramji, for an Environmental Cause.

Director Statement

As a Filmmaker, I tend to look for stories that ignite something dormant lying inside you, that explore the deeper questions related to Humanity and Environment.

I got to know of a Village Man, who was doing ‘Larger than Life’ efforts for protecting Planet Earth. His Story was so uncommon, that I couldn’t resist but visit his Village and see his work.
I discovered that a Movement, “Replace Litter, Plant Flowers” that this common man had started 13 years ago, has now reached a stage where it has the potential to transcend to the entire Globe, all because of this man’s undying passion and sense of responsibility towards the Environment. It has gone from free distribution of less than 20,000 saplings, 13 years back to daily free distribution of saplings in crores.

I found his dedication to the Cause so intimidating that I was inspired to make a Film on this.

A Story of an Environmentalist in Darbi Village of Haryana, who had been putting tireless efforts every single day from last 13 years, to replace mountains of garbage with crores of seasonal flowers, has shifted the entire landscape that was earlier obscured by corpses, waste and stench.

Dr. Ramji Jaimal, is fronting this Documentary, bringing to our Sight, the Pandemic of Waste and staunch mindsets of people who changed because of his Movement. It’s a renaissance in making.

It took a lot to make this Film. From frequent visits to the village in winters, to shooting in bone chilling mornings and harsh winter nights, all this required lot of dedication and willpower. Sirsa is known to be one of the coldest places in North India and most of the Film was shot in winters.
While shooting for this Film, we faced many technical and logistic challenges like low visibility for the camera and harsh winters, synchronization of sound as most of the movie was shot in natural surroundings. Some scenes had to be shot in the Studio due to harsh challenges of the weather.
The early morning shoots despite being tough, did have a welcoming feeling of serenity accompanied with sounds of birds chirping around.

As I write this, I am swept away at the thought of power of Perseverance and Community support. The entire cast and crew has worked untiringly to bring this Film to Life.

We hope that this film resonates with everyone and connects us to the Environment at a much deeper level.
