Batang Garing
In Bornean mystical forest, there lived a tree of life called Batang Garing. One day, the forest was on fire caused by land clearing by irresponsible people. The wildfire harmed the existence of Batang Garing as the source of villagers in the mystical forest, including Dayak Ngaju tribe that lives in there. Karuhei, the son of Dayak Ngaju village chief, desired to save the forest from fire with Burung Enggang's instruction, the Father of the Sky. Unfortunately, because of one thing, Karuhei is not believed by his father and the whole tribe.

Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN)Country: Indonesia
Ivana Sari studies animation at Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) in Indonesia.
'Inkarna' is her debut of 3D animation film with her teammates from Candramawa Production. It has won 'The Best Story' award in UMN Screening Day and has been nominated for AFI, ISFF, Hellofest, and TFF Award in the 'Best Short Animation' category.
Curently, she has finished her study and produced a short 2D animation film, 'Batang Garing', for the final project with her teammates from Myopia Production. The film has been selected in several festivals such as CIFF, 21 Islands International Short Film Fest, UCIFEST, AYIFF, and top 50 finalist in ISFF SCTV 2018.
Indonesia is a country with various tribes and races. One of the largest tribes is the Dayak on Borneo (Kalimantan) island. The Dayak tribe have several sub-tribes and with variety different cultures but yet similar. One of Dayak sub-tribes is Dayak Ngaju that dominates in Central Kalimantan.
Central Kalimantan is one of the provinces in Indonesia, which until 2015 is the region with the highest wildfires’ fire points. As a result, not only many plants and animals species are threatened, but also the Dayak tribe.
Therefore, my team and I created an animation used Dayak’s culture and wildfires problems in Kalimantan. One of the Dayak’s folklore that we used is Batang Garing, the tree of life in Dayak version. The irresponsible outsiders caused wildfires that makes Batang Garing, which is the source of life of Dayaks and its surrounding, is threatened. Not only that, in our film we tell about the father and son relationship as a plot to bring the audience into the main issues of the story.
