Director Biography - Alfonso Moreno

"I write my own songs so that I don't have to worry about copyright infringement."

Although Alfonso has directed many photo and video shoots for online rich media projects, this is his first time writing and directing an actual story for film.

A Minneapolis resident for over 20 years, Alfonso Moreno, born and raised in Spain, studied Audiovisual Media & Information Sciences at the UCM University of Madrid in the late 1980s.

Having attended while homeless during his punk rock years, he fronted the cult proto-hardcore band TdeK as Alfonso Cronopio with which he cut the two seminal spanish punk albums “Esto es una empresa capitalista,” (1985) and “Carnevisión,” (1986.)
Still homeless, he applied and obtained two scholarships from the EU to continue his studies in video and film, transitioning almost immediately to computer graphics (“I don’t have to yell and argue with the lighting crew to light the shot the way I need it, I just place the lights with the bloody mouse now.”)

After short stints as a storyboard artist and working in CGI, Alfonso moved to the US in the late 1990s where he started taking work as a digital art director to better support his family.

Always passionate about non-sequential communication, he quickly evolved from the passive field of advertising/marketing to the more audience-involved realm of experience design, in which he has built a career for the last 12 years of his life.

Director Statement

What better subject than death to approach the story of an aging rocker? I’ve always been fascinated by the many ways with which humanity copes with the notion of its own expiration date. “Paying the Ferryman” is a story of life, death, the passing of time, and the relativity of human value.
