Not only will film makers be in invited to attend but also film distributors, agents, producers, industry insiders and film lovers making this one of the buzz events of the International festival circuit. AIFF aims to provide filmmakers with an invaluable launch platform among industry professionals and film-lovers. We would love to help take your career to the next level. The Australian Independent Film Festival is supported by the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland.
“Put this festival in your top 10 list to submit. You’ll be glad you did.” Jhett Tolentino - Grammy & Tony Award Winning Broadway Producer.
5 REASONS TO SUBMIT TO THE AUSTRALIA INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL (AIFF):
1. THE WILD CARD:
It’s an AIFF original. Once finalists are announced festival organizers select up to an additional twelve short format films to screen at the festival. Any genre, all genres, their favourites. These films aren't selected by points, budget, fancy equipment, big names, perfect sound, colour correction or past successes. These films will be selected because of the passion they display, their great stories, the surprises, and the emotions they draw. AIFF will give films that might not screen at any other festival a real chance of screening at our festival.
All wild card films will be awarded special laurels, a print quality digital certificate and a guaranteed screening. This is our way of truly supporting independent cinema unlike any other festival. We want different because we are different.
Wild Card selections are an audience favourite and the Wild Card session is not to be missed!
2. THE SELECTION PROCESS:
We understand the amount of work put into each film. Therefore, we are careful to ensure that each movie and screenplay is carefully reviewed under a standardized and fair judging system. Being an independent festival we encourage all film entries and a greater emphasis in the judging process is the overall appeal verses technical perfection. We understand a film shot on a shoestring budget may not have the sound quality of a film shot on a major budget and this will be taken into consideration.
3. REWARDING FILMMAKERS
SEMI-FINALISTS. The top twenty percent (submission dependant) of each category will be named as semi-finalists and will be awarded a semi-finalist laurel and a digital print quality certificate at festival close.
Please note: Semi-finalist films will not be screened at the festival unless selected as a Wild Card entry.
FINALISTS will be selected from the semi-finalist group and will be awarded a finalist laurel, official selection laurel and a digital certificate. Numbers will be dependent on category entries and programming requirements.
Please note: Due to time constraints Feature Film trailers 'only' will be shown for official feature film selections. Feature Films will not be screened and will not lose premiere status by entering AIFF.
WINNER'S of each category will be awarded a special winner's laurel, an original certificate and a high quality crystal trophy. One trophy per winning entry only will be awarded. Films and screenplays are selected as winners and not individuals or groups. If a Winner and or representative is not able to attend the festival a digital copy of the certificate will be provided along with the award trophy being sent. Postage will be provided by the festival.
4. AIFF NETWORKING @ausindefest
We believe a festival is not a festival without the opportunity for filmmakers to network. All selected finalist films will receive 2 free passes to their films screening session and for feature film and screenplay finalists a screening session of their choice. . At the conclusion of screening sessions.festival goers will be encouraged to stay on and further network and socialize.
5. THE CITY and THE VENUE:
Brisbane, located an hour's drive from the World famous beaches of the Gold Coast is a vibrant, art loving new world city that can be considered the Gateway to Australia. Brisbane, the capital of Queensland is rich with culture and renowned for its hospitality and safety. AIFF will take place at the The Lumen Room which is a refurbished space with old school cinema seating in the Metro Arts building nestled within the exclusive world-class retail and dining Edward Street Precinct.
Metro Arts is a dynamic hub for Brisbane’s arts and arts-going community and the perfect home for AIFF.
Whilst we understand there are larger and more modern cinemas we feel a smaller space creates a far more intimate, unique and rewarding festival experience. At AIFF you will not simply be a face within the crowd!
