And thanks to new streaming and distribution channels, audiences have never been more connected (through the likes of Letterboxd and social media). These 10 films from renowned directors are likely to enter the conversation and stay there once they debut. The good news is that despite this being the Korean maestro\u2019s first Hollywood outing, his contract with Warner Bros.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.empireonline.com\/movies\/news\/bong-joon-ho-confirms-final-cut-mickey-17-exclusive\/\"> grants him final cut<\/a> on the sci-fi comedy. If you\u2019ve seen any of his other works (\u201cMemories of Murder,\u201d \u201cSnowpiercer,\u201d \u201cParasite\u201d), the prospect of pure, unfiltered Bong on a massive budget and scale is incredibly exciting, as is the fact that he\u2019s re-teaming with \u201cOkja\u201d star Steven Yeun. He\u2019s also collaborating with Robert Pattinson, Robert Pattinson, <em>and<\/em> Robert Pattinson; the \u201cBatman\u201d star plays several cloned worker drones in an off-world mining colony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. \u201cSinners\u201d (April 18)<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"atbssuga-responsive-video\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sinners | Official Trailer\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bKGxHflevuk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While filmmaker Ryan Coogler has spent the last decade on franchise fare\u2014the \u201cRocky\u201d sequel \u201cCreed,\u201d and Marvel\u2019s two \u201cBlack Panther\u201d films\u2014he\u2019s remained incredibly adept at telling rigorous, dramatic stories within genre confines. For Warner Bros. period horror \u201cSinners,\u201d his first original film since 2013\u2019s tragic biopic \u201cFruitvale Station,\u201d he teams up once again with Michael B. Jordan for not one but two onscreen roles. Jordan plays Elijah and Elias, twin brothers in the Jim Crow\u2013era South hoping to leave their past behind, only to find a deep evil waiting for them in their rural hometown. However, every film since the fifth installment, 2015\u2019s \u201cMission: Impossible\u2014Rogue Nation,\u201d has been handled by close Tom Cruise collaborator Christopher McQuarrie. Paramount\u2019s eighth film in the series (being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemark.com\/movie-news\/articles\/mission-impossible-8-the-final-reckoning-trailer-cast-plot\">teased<\/a> as the last one) looks to up the ante, both in terms of death-defying stunts\u2014Cruise hangs off another plane or two\u2014and for what\u2019s at stake for IMF agent Ethan Hunt.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cruise and McQuarrie have been out to prove the wonder and effectiveness of old-school, tactile action filmmaking (their villain is also, notably, an algorithmic AI), and seeing the lengths they\u2019ll go to deliver cinematic thrills is just as exciting as the series\u2019 long-running story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Even its title is a mystery, though <a href=\"https:\/\/krcrtv.com\/north-coast-news\/eureka-local-news\/the-film-recently-shot-on-the-north-coast-starring-leonardo-dicaprio-officially-has-a-name\">some reports<\/a> point to it being called \u201cThe Battle of Baktan Cross.\u201d Despite a wide release being planned by Warner Bros. (including plenty of IMAX screens), Anderson is one of the few American filmmakers who, even nine movies in, appears to have retained his indie arthouse sensibility at the studio level. He continues to turn in exciting, idiosyncratic works on increasingly larger scales. A remake of Korean sci-fi comedy \u201cSave the Green Planet!,\u201d \u201cBugonia\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.focusfeatures.com\/article\/Yorgos-Lanthimos_Bugonia_announcement\">will follow<\/a> the kidnapping of a powerful pharma CEO Michelle (Stone) by a pair of conspiracy theorist cousins who are convinced she\u2019s an alien intent on destroying planet Earth. Details are currently sparse, but one of the aforementioned kidnappers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.koimoi.com\/hollywood-news\/bugonia-what-to-expect-from-emma-stones-next-movie-thats-already-creating-major-buzz\/\">appears to be<\/a> a beekeeper named Teddy played by Jesse Plemons, Stone\u2019s co-star on Lanthimos\u2019 most recent project, \u201cKinds of Kindness.\u201d The film from Focus Features sounds like the perfect combination of vicious and loopy, and will likely make a major festival bow before its release (either at Cannes or Venice).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6.<\/strong> <strong>\u201cAvatar: Fire and Ash\u201d (Dec. 19)<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"634\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1233 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/filmfreeway.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/01\/WindtradersReefDusk_241023_concept_dpc_v01pckgComp-1024x634.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH \u2013 Concept art by Dylan Cole. \u00a92024 20th Century Studios. The director\u2019s technical experimentation has gone hand in hand with simple, functional, emotionally driven storytelling for decades.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His \u201cThe Way of Water\u201d took the world of Pandora to new heights and undersea depths, and given Cameron\u2019s bro-meets\u2013flower child sensibilities, he\u2019s likely to stage some eye-popping action scenes in novel environments, while preaching a preservationist message. So, it\u2019s likely the French fest will host the debut for her third feature, \u201cAlpha.\u201d Five-time Palme d\u2019Or winner Neon acquired the rights last year, and while the plot is under wraps at this time, the film will star Golshifteh Farahani and Tahar Rahim. A<a href=\"https:\/\/actu.fr\/normandie\/pont-audemer_27467\/a-pont-audemer-un-film-tourne-a-la-piscine-par-une-realisatrice-de-la-palme-dor-a-cannes_61798296.html\"> set report<\/a> suggests it\u2019s Ducournau\u2019s \u201cmost personal\u201d film yet and revolves around a teenager in the \u201980s being rejected by her classmates after a rumor that she\u2019s contracted a new disease spreads. This makes her a perfect fit for a biopic about Austrian-Czech author Franz Kafka, perhaps the most famous 20th century surrealist.<a href=\"https:\/\/cineuropa.org\/en\/newsdetail\/421418\/\"> According to<\/a> Holland, the film\u2014boarded by Films Boutique for world sales\u2014will deal with Kafka\u2019s life in mosaic fragments, but it will also trace his lingering influence in modern-day Prague. Following the melodic slow burn \u201cKaili Blues\u201d and the dreamlike 3D experiment \u201cLong Day\u2019s Journey Into Night,\u201d Bi\u2019s next film sounds like a sci-fi mind-melter. \u201cResurrection\u201d follows a woman who, during surgery, falls into an eternal, timeless realm where she stumbles across an android corpse whom she awakens by telling stories. Like \u201cLong Day\u2019s Journey Into Night,\u201d \u201cResurrection\u201d has been boarded for sales and distribution by French company Les Films du Losange, making a Cannes premiere probable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>10.<\/strong> <strong>\u201cThe Way of the Wind\u201d (TBD)<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"atbssuga-responsive-video\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"THE TREE OF LIFE Official HD Trailer\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RrAz1YLh8nY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Given his lengthy editing process, there\u2019s no telling whether Terrence Malick\u2019s latest film, which wrapped filming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/news\/general-news\/terrence-malick-happy-with-the-way-of-the-wind-progress-1234894294\/\">in 2019<\/a>, will actually release in 2025\u2014though a premiere at this year\u2019s Cannes Film Festival has been<a href=\"https:\/\/thefilmstage.com\/exclusive-terrence-malicks-three-hour-biblical-epic-the-way-of-the-wind-aims-for-2025-premiere-as-first-story-details-arrive\/\"> the apparent plan<\/a> since before <em>last year\u2019s<\/em> edition. Malick\u2019s films have always been deeply spiritual (his Palme d\u2019Or\u2013winning \u201cThe Tree of Life\u201d is practically an impressionistic letter to God), and \u201cThe Way of the Wind\u201d looks to tackle some of his beliefs head-on. While this time he\u2019s focusing on a grounded story about the life of Jesus Christ, his last film \u201cA Hidden Life,\u201d about an Austrian farmer facing death for refusing to fight alongside Nazis on the cusp of World War II, tackled similar themes of conscientious objection.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thefilmstage.com\/exclusive-terrence-malicks-three-hour-biblical-epic-the-way-of-the-wind-aims-for-2025-premiere-as-first-story-details-arrive\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:#ffffff\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">According to<\/mark><\/a> G\u00e9za R\u00f6hrig, the actor portraying Jesus in \u201cThe Way of the Wind,\u201d the film will follow Saint Peter (Matthias Schoenaerts) as he convinces the messianic figure to become more politically involved against Roman oppression. Whatever its level of historic accuracy, Malick\u2019s soulful, freewheeling approach will likely lend the film his trademark visual poetry, and offer up new ways of seeing cinema, ourselves, and the
