Vitor Vilaverde directed the feature documentary Andor, about the only living Brazilian-born who survived the Holocaust, which will premiere in 2022. He graduated in Film at the Federal University of São Carlos, has a MA in Literature, and he is a Ph.D. student at the Ohio State University in Latin-American Literatures and Culture. His methodology merges theory and practice, and his research explores the affects and politics of Latin-American documentaries.
I'm a first-time Brazilian filmmaker. This film is the realization of two major social projects in Brazil. “Andor” is a documentary that tells the story of the only Brazilian-born Holocaust survivor who, since 2010 travels around Brazil to talk about life and freedom. In one of these lectures, a young girl fell in love with his story and brought it to Querô Filmes, the producers of the film. Querô is a social production company with more than 15 years of experience. In addition to the production of audiovisual content, they teach workshops in audiovisual for young people with economic disadvantages. This film is the first feature film directed by a former student of Querô workshops. It's my debut making a direct documentary, produced completely independently. The producer's previous film and first feature, “Socrates”, has participated in more than twenty international festivals and won awards such as Someone to Watch at the 2019 Spirit Awards.
I, and the rest of the team, believe in the power of this film and in Andor's message to the world. We believe in the social power of documentaries and that's why we invested in the independent production of this film.
