Anamika Bandopadhyay, AKA Anamika Basudha an academician and policy researcher, wears many hats: policy activist, filmmaker, film scholar, and published author was born in India. Has been living in the US over a decade and half.
For her, filmmaking is not just an art form but an extension of her activism—a powerful medium to critique human rights abuses, geopolitical conflicts, and environmental degradation.
Born in India and currently based in the US, Anamika's early life was steeped in the rich tapestry of her homeland's culture and struggles. She moved to the United States to pursue higher education. An Ambedkarite and a socialist, she is deeply committed to social justice and equality.
Her engagement with Aboriginal cultures and a transformative encounter with Michelangelo Antonioni have profoundly influenced her cinematic vision. Through her films, she challenges the power structures that perpetuate injustice, making each frame a testament to her relentless pursuit of a more equitable world.
An outspoken critic of religious fundamentalism, racism, and gender discrimination within society and the power structure.
She met Michelangelo Antonioni at the very early age that changed her life and soon was initiated into cinema through the films of Andrei Tarkovsky, Bresson and Jean-Luc Godard.
She has made five documentaries and a number of short films, including films like Red, Take Care, Memoirs, 1700 Kelvin and The Third Breast.
She contributes in her films as a writer, director, editor and as a sound designer.
