Director Statement

"aMari" is a conceptual and figurative film, conceived as a space-time trip of Zamalzain, the shaman woman.

The film offers an anthropological and aesthetic vision hidden in the depths of the collective unconscious. An imaginary that is been registered, cumulating and transforming from the origins of man and woman and that has been passed from generation to generation until today. An imaginary of myths and legends that will show us part of the origin of cosmogony and the worldview of the pre-Indo european ancestral culture.

Conducted through a thoughtful, contemplative and critical look through the use of the camera and focused on nature around us. The film draws a circle over the four seasons and through the natural settings of the Cantabrian Mountains, the Cantabrian coast and the Pyrenees.

A linguistic-aesthetic interpretation of the origin and development of the pre-Indo european culture. A culture born in prehistoric times and even today remains alive but locked in the deepest, sacred and etymological meaning of * the Basque.

Despite the scientific advances available today for the modern man, he still does not understand, nor shows an interest in the artistic value representing the works of art made by our ancestors in the depths of the caves through paintings, sculptures and engravings. Artistic and conceptually speaking, the modern man is trapped in the prehistoric art and helpless within the nonsense in the world that he is currently living in.

The Modern man is a man who lives in the absence of the sacred and in constant desecration, a lost and disoriented man in the darkness of his own existence.

A personal and professional challenge of an experimental and reflective nature. A job that has required 10 years of dedication to the author in product research, script writing, filming, editing, music creation and post-production of the image and sound, to finally offer to the viewer the best possible outcome of the film "aMari".

Written and directed with the intention of persuading the viewer to participate and experience the starring role in the film.
