Director Statement

Xia Can is not the only protagonist in the story; each child has their own goals and motivations, most of which stem from a lack of attention from their parents. We don’t aim to judge whether the problems that arise are right or wrong. After all, we’ve all grown up this way—every child has their own troubles. Sometimes, it’s parents who can help ease those troubles, but other times, it’s friends who step in.
For parents navigating parenthood for the first time, this story isn’t about discussing who’s right or wrong. Instead, it’s about reducing regrets. Parents are also their children’s friends, and perhaps your “friend” has been feeling a little down lately. Maybe you can’t solve their problems, but at the very least, you’ve noticed and acknowledged them, rather than pretending nothing is wrong.
