a film about a uterus
"a film about a uterus" follows Nava, a young Iranian woman who becomes her mother's guardian after a hysterectomy. Nava's task is to transport her mother's preserved uterus—and with it, the weight of her own existence—to a pathologist in another part of the city. Along the way, she encounters three archetypes of patriarchal institutions who underestimate her. Despite facing obstacles, Nava draws strength from cherished memories, imagination, and introspection; and has a triumphant reunion with her mother.

Aryo Khakpour is a multidisciplinary performer, director, and dramaturg from Iran. With a BFA in Theatre Performance from Simon Fraser University, Aryo has been involved in numerous theatre, dance, and film productions in Vancouver since 2006. He is a co-founder of The Biting School, which was the company-in-residence at PuSh Festival and The Dance Centre from 2018 to 2020. In his practice, he explores the dynamics of power, implications of ideologies, repetition of mythologies, and cultural adaptation from an intersectional feminist perspective. His practice is physical and surrealistic; it moves from theatre to performance art to dance to film and back to theatre; it deals with pain and pleasure.
