A Dog In Paris
Sam is a young and neurotic aspiring filmmaker living at home with his Jewish family. After finishing a draft of his screenplay "A Dog In Paris" he looks to his girlfriend, Rachel a French horn player and his creative partner Aaron for feedback. Upset with the lack of attention his work gets, Aaron convinces him to share his work online. Sam is physically transported to the social media world where he meets a wide range of internet archetypes who happily become his biggest fans. As Sam spends more time online falling for the affirmations of his social media friends, he neglects his real world relationships.

Aaron Alter is a Toronto based Director, Cinematographer and Producer. Between shooting and directing music videos for artists including Allan Rayman, and commercials for brands including Canon, Philips, UHN, Nike and Cheerios, Aaron spends his free time working with collaborator Sam Berns on short and feature projects. As a recent Ryerson University film graduate, Aaron is still attempting to make great strides within the world of independent film.
Whose affirmations in life make your work meaningful? In the digital age, affirmations are easier to come by than ever before. A Dog In Paris aims to explore our growing attachment to the opinions of the masses as opposed to our own and the people closest to them. A Dog In Paris is a feature comedy film written, directed, and produced by Sam Berns, Aaron Alter, and A Dog In Paris Film Ltd. The film takes a meta approach, reflecting a coming of age experience within Sam and Aaron's lives. As they enter into adulthood the characters both strive to be successful as filmmakers. However, they first must determine what success means to them. The movie’s influences include Woody Allen, Seth MacFarlane, and Federico Fellini, with films such as Ed Wood and Stardust Memories as key references. It adapts the satirical commentary and sometimes slapstick tendencies of Allen, while transfixing them to modern day themes (the Internet, social media). At the same time, A Dog In Paris remains light through original music, quick witted dialogue, and gags that are akin to a cartoon. The film deals with themes of success, chasing your dreams and modern-day affirmation.
