Private Project

Bangladesh in 2015:
A countrywide blockade has been enforced over the political struggle for Power since January. Neither the ruling party, nor the opposition, is prepared to back down from their rigid positions. Therefore, it is the People who’ve been forced to pay the ultimate price. Guerilla attacks, cocktails and petrol-bombs have claimed lives every single day. Yet the masses – driven by the exigencies of Life – have taken to the streets. They have had to gamble with their lives.

Those trying to get from Dhaka to Madaripur or vice versa, have to avail the ferry service at Mawa-Keurakandi. A number of ferries, speedboats, steamers and engine-boats ply this route across the river Padma. This story is about the passengers of one such engine-boat. A motley bunch of various ages and various social standing has boarded the vessel. The boat has set off from Mawa and headed to Keurakandi at the crack of dawn. It’s a winter morning. That too, on the river Padma. Yet a dense, impermeable shroud of mist suddenly engulfs them. Nothing beyond fifteen feet can be seen anymore. It is virtually impossible to go on like this. Thus these people are stranded in a maze of fog in the middle of the river. At one point, the countrywide political blockade, this natural siege over the Padma and their own personal demons begin to intersect.
