a Record of Mischief
a Record of Mischief
This story is a record of love and scars, unfolding various narratives through an omnibus format. Each story explores the theme in its own unique way, revealing the complexities of human existence.
Prologue:
The story begins by shedding light on the dark side of Korean society. Students suffering from violence escape the pain of reality into the forest, dreaming of a new life there. However, their escape meets a tragic ending, once again engraving the harshness of society.
Act 1: Shadow of a Dream
This story follows someone's journey in a dream. The dreamer meets someone they desperately wanted to see and spends happy moments, but upon waking, realizes it was all a dream and falls into deep loss. It delicately depicts the aching and regret felt at the boundary between dream and reality.
Act 2: The Serpent's Temptation
A man who moves to a new place falls into a bizarre love with a giant serpent. The love between such disparate beings—a human and a serpent—is unconventional yet fascinating, but ultimately, the man meets a tragic end, devoured by the serpent. It powerfully portrays the relationship between desire and destruction.
Act 3: The Leftovers
This is the story of a woman who meets her death in the place where she spent her childhood. Toys born from her blood carry out one by one the things the woman couldn't do while alive, disappearing with the house forever. It delicately expresses the traces of life and the aching longing that continue even after death.
Act 4: The Irony of Farewell
This story uniquely unravels the pain of farewell through ironic situations. Through the facets of farewell mixed with sadness and laughter, resentment and lingering attachment, it effectively conveys the complex emotions of parting.
Act 5: The Serpent's Revenge
This is a reinterpretation of the biblical story of Adam and Eve. To avenge Adam for abandoning him, the serpent kills Eve and ultimately takes his own life. It powerfully depicts the heavy themes of original sin, revenge, and destruction.
Act 6: A Self-Portrait of Youth
This story captures the realistic problems faced by young adults in Korean society from a self-deprecating perspective. The image of young people agonizing in an uncertain future and a harsh reality evokes sadness, but at the same time, it concludes by presenting hope that they will find the answer.
