Meletis is a professional Seaman, Deck Officer of the Merchant Navy.
His first artistic interest was Storytelling, he figured that out when he was about 5 years old.
Then , as a child and teenager, he expressed his ideas through Music and Sketching. He used to play the Guitar but then life happened…
“At some point we have to let our dreams be dreams and start working in the real world.”
He pursued a career at Sea, something he never regrets.
Years later he heard a music composition, classical Genre, and then a Story came to his mind. His inspiration was, is and will always be Music.
He started to write a Novel, but after two years of writing, he understood he will never finish it.
When he served in the Army, at the age of 28, the whole experience reminded him the movies. Actually, he chose the Rangers, specifically, Airborne.
“It was tough and thinking about how all this could turn like a movie script helped me get through.”
And then the solution came. An easier way to tell a story, the way he imagined it from the very beginning. So he started writing Screenplays and he participated in a few contests. At some point he wanted to see one of his Ideas getting alive on the screen. So he started to learn how to Direct a Movie. Due to financial restrains, he learned most of the procedures, including Direction of Photography, Editing, Sound Engineering, Camera Operation, Costuming and Production concerns.
“One day, I wanted to see a specific movie. It didn’t exist, so I started to learn how to make it”
After he purchased the basic equipment, he desided to film a short movie before he would embark again onboard a vessel. He had twenty days to do so, and he actually did it.
– Decisions – is his first movie, and maybe his last, but one thing is for sure… it was a great achievement. The Script was written in Six days, the Storyboard in about seven days, the Shooting took place in five days and… that was it! The editing was made onboard the vessel he was working, when he had free time, and the outcome is what you can see here, now.
“Decisions is a pretty simple idea, but a great accomplishment and a general lesson about Team Management and Project Preparation.”
He has many more stories to tell, most of them are more “Serious and Creepy” as he recalls. They came out of life after all…
