RALPH BAUER YOUTH VOICES ARTS CONTEST:
The Ralph Bauer and Shirley Dettloff Youth Voices Essay & Art Contest is a district-wide search for the top human relations short films, musical compositions and dance choreography created by high school students in Huntington Beach and the Huntington Beach Union High School District. The contest aims to engage high school-aged young people in meaningful expression concerning issues of diversity and tolerance in Huntington Beach. A certificate, letter of recognition, and prize(s) will be awarded to winner(s).

Opportunities for public display of winning and notable entries may be provided, as well, including display of notable artwork submission.

PRIZE INFORMATION
Funds will be provided to students for future educational endeavors in each of three categories:
short films
musical compositions
dance choreography

SUBMISSION PROMPTS:
Create an original short films, musical compositions, or dance choreography that explores an issue of tolerance and diversity in the life of Huntington Beach area high school students. The finished piece should convey a clear message about responding to intolerance and the strength that is needed to do so.

Each entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate U.S. copyright laws. Any entry that has been copied from an existing photo or image (including a painting, graphic, or advertisement) that was created by someone other than the student is a violation of the competition rules and will not be accepted. Choreography must be:
Original
No more than 4 minutes in length
Any form of dance: ballet, modern, lyrical, tap, hiphop or cultural dance
May be a solo, duet or group
Submitted digitally to the website with explanation of message intended

Films must be:
Original
No more than 10 minutes in length
Any form of film that honors the theme and prompt
Submitted digitally to the website with explanation of message intended

Musical Compositions must be:
Original
No more than 5 minutes in length
Any style of music that honors the theme and prompt
Performed by the composer of others.
Submitted digitally to the website with explanation of message intended

NAMING AND LABELING FILES BEFORE UPLOADING:
***Please label all of your files (digital art submission and essay submission) with your INDIVIDUAL ID and “title of your work”.
***Your Individual ID consists of the first initial of your given name and the last four digits of your personal cell number. (For example, an entrant’s name is Dawn Test and her personal phone number is 714-123-8887. Dawn’s INDIVIDUAL ID would be “D8887"
***Dawn's entry is titled, “Tolerance”. The label for her file would be "D8887-Tolerance”).
***Include your INDIVIDUAL ID in the header of your essay. NO OTHER IDENTIFYING MARKS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE HEADER OF YOUR PAPER OR ELSEWHERE IN THE PAPER.
