National identity has always been a complicated and difficult topic to deal with, which also leads to national or regional tensions in many corners of the world, such as Catalonia of Spain, Scotland of UK. In Asia, besides the situation on Korean Peninsula, relations between Taiwan and China is also another unsettled issue for more than half of a century in the region. As Taiwan’s only TV program that discusses social issues with young people, Youth News @ PTS undertook a multiplatform approach and teamed up with a renowned election study center in Taiwan to survey over 2000 Taiwanese youths under the age of 18 on this topic for the very first time. Director Statement

In Europe, England is dealing with issues of Scottish Independence and Spain is managing with Catalonia’s independence movement. Meanwhile, in Asia, South Korea and North Korea is also facing with issue of unification. Likewise, Taiwan has been struggling with similar condition of being annexed by China or striving for independence for many years. Taiwan is one of the democratic nations which is not officially recognized in the world. Taiwan is unable to participate in international organization and join international competition by our official country name.
This kind of anxiety toward future and issues of differentiated national identification are widely discussed in society by the upcoming presidential election in 2020 and Hong Kong protest. In this episode, Youth News targeted on adolescents to interview about their national identification and how they communicate with their parents with different political attitude.
