Director Statement

As a filmmaker, I am deeply interested in stories that explore the conflict between personal passion and societal expectations. Your Song is a reflection of this tension, following the journey of a college student struggling with the decision to pursue music or stay on the academic path laid out for her. This story resonates with my own experiences as a creative, navigating the pressures of conventional paths while seeking to honor my artistic instincts.

Through this film, I wanted to explore themes of identity, ambition, and the complex emotions that come with choosing between two seemingly opposing dreams. My hope is to portray the internal struggle so many young adults face, and to invite the audience to reflect on their own life choices.

Visually, I chose a grounded, intimate style to bring the audience into the protagonist's world, balancing moments of daydreaming with the realities she faces. The film's music plays a critical role in representing the character’s internal world, highlighting the allure of her creative passion.

Ultimately, I want Your Song to resonate with anyone who has ever questioned their path and to remind viewers that the pursuit of creativity is valid and worthy of the same commitment we often give to more traditional goals.
