May Suri grew up in the city of Richmond, Virginia, where she started her filmmaking career. From a young age, she was a passionate storyteller, and she chose film as her medium to tell these stories. In her Junior year of high school, she founded a production company called “Carystreet Cinematics” for young filmmakers to gain more experience. With her production company, she has completed three shorts and is in post production on a feature film. After graduating from high school, she now attends Virginia Commonwealth University for Cinema and Business. She hopes to continue her education in Virginia before moving to a bigger city.
Sophie, the writer of the film, and I started a partnership in Spring of 2022. After some brainstorming sessions, the idea for Your Move was born. Your Move is unique because Sophie lives in the UK, and the film was shot and edited in the US. I knew that I wanted to work with Sophie right away, and she brings such a bright energy to every interaction. Working with other young creatives is my favorite, and I got a chance to put together a team consisting of high school and college filmmakers for this project. The film was shot over two days in Virginia and then we took about a month in post so that Sophie and I had ample time to collaborate on the final version of the film. Your Move actually has two versions, one with dialogue and one without. We thought that the dialogue version gave a more clear narrative and utilized the strengths of our actress, and that is why we have decided to submit our sound version to you. I hope that you enjoy viewing this labor of love as much as we enjoyed making it!
