York Hovest was born on 28.02.1978 in Wesel, Germany. For twenty years now he lives with his family in Munich. From here he plans his projects and travels, going to the most remote areas of our planet to document the uniqueness of nature, people and their culture, because they are the true treasures of our world. They are all threatened today by industry, greed for power and pollution, which makes them all the more precious to us. The National Geographic author and photographer wants to convey this value with his work and give people an incentive to get involved or even become active themselves.
In 2011, at a personal meeting, he gives the Dalai Lama the promise to travel to Tibet and capture the soul of the country with his camera. In 2014, this results in the bestselling illustrated book "Hundred Days of Tibet."
In 2015, York continues this passionate work and starts his second project "Hundred Days of Amazonia". For this, he goes in search of the last indigenous peoples of the Amazon region and witnesses their threatened existence.
2017 marks the beginning of the Munich-based photographer's greatest challenge. For his current project, "Heroes of the Sea," York is accompanying scientists, visionaries and thought leaders whose innovative and sustainable solutions could be our guide to saving the oceans. Beginning in December 2019, he is using a unique promotional campaign in which he rows across the Atlantic to raise awareness of the global database that he is using to give greater visibility to all "Heroes of the Sea." With www.heroesofthesea.com, York has created an incredible network that is constantly growing, introducing people around the world to all the projects that protect the oceans.
