Born on September 20, 1999 and bred in Visalia, California. Throughout his life, Crew McBean has been fascinated by the art of filmmaking and the power of media culture. Crew graduated from El Diamante High School in 2017 and migrated to Monterey Bay where he majored in Cinematic Arts and Technology at California State University: Monterey Bay for the next four years. Over the course of the first half of 2021, Crew has shot and filmed his directorial debut -- a horror short named Yin/Yang -- in the midst of the COVID pandemic while studying a year and a half on online classes. Yin/Yang is currently screening in various film festivals and will make its public premiere around fall 2021. Crew is currently figuring out the layout for his next short while building a post-college life after graduation from CSUMB with High Honors and a Bachelor of Arts Degree.
"I first conceived the production of Yin/Yang during lockdown as a college senior film student at the age of the COVID pandemic. I was initially hesitant because this would be my directorial debut and many things can go wrong during production especially if it's in the midst of a pandemic. I was about to quit the project because I thought it wouldn't go anywhere. However, thanks to the sudden outburst of support and arrival of both cast and production crew members, I was able to finally go through with this and resilience was on our side as we spent three days in filming with successful results. As both a technical achievement and a worthy challenge to test the depth of my skills as a filmmaker, I'm more than pleased to present my short directorial debut, Yin/Yang, to the film industry. It is a simple story about a man's struggle against nature but it's also a visual metaphor of how all of us can easily be viciously caught up between the civil and primal instincts of human and inhuman life if we're not fully conscious about it. I don't have much else to say except possibly spoiling the fun of watching this film so this is my cue to leave the stage. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the film. Peace out."
