My name is Blake McGuinness. I am a lifelong film enthusiast and passionate filmmaker. At present, I am 20 years old and attending the University of Texas in Austin. I am a junior studying in Radio, Television and Film at the Moody College of Communication.
At an early age, I became extremely interested in film development and production. When I was 12, I was given my first camera and began to create short films with my friends.
From the moment that I started filming, I fell in love with the medium. I worked hard and self-taught myself to film, edit, direct and write movies. Through intermediate and high school, I filmed and directed many different short films and assisted my high school with its film department. Through this process, I was fortunate to work with many talented friends with varying interests in the filmmaking process.
When I was 17 in my senior year of high school, I started to write the screenplay for a feature length film named “Yesterday’s Over”. We sought to create a film that was true to our high school experiences and relationships, and the bittersweet feeling of leaving home and going in different directions.
We tried filming the movie during the summer after my senior year of high school. Unfortunately, we lacked the resources and time to make the movie with the quality and content that I envisioned.
At the beginning of my freshman year at UT, I worked further on the pre-production of the film and set up a Kickstarter project to raise money for many of the needs for the film, including equipment, props and entries into film festivals. I was fortunate to have a successful funding.
In the summer after my freshman year, my friends and I filmed “Yesterday’s Over” in my hometown in California, Fresno as well as San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay. With the expedited schedule, we worked countless hours with final filming completed in the early morning before I flew back to Austin.
During my second year at UT, I worked tireless hours on post-production and continued to mold the film into a product that I was satisfied. I am really excited to introduce my first feature film.
