“Yen Tappu Illai”'s director, producer, screenwriter, cinematographer, editor and actor, Komalavasan is a software development professional who has a deep passion for the craft of filmmaking.
“Are you sure it wasn't all just a misunderstanding?”
"What were you wearing?"
“What did you do to make them to behave like that?”
“Why did you argue back?”
“What will the neighbours think?”
Why is it that victims and survivors of abuse get blamed for what has happened to them through no fault of their own?
“Yen Tappu Illai” unveils the personal experiences of survivors who have suffered immensely at the hands of relentless abuse and are silenced by self-appointed “social police”.
It is a story of shame to honour. Through it, I pay tribute to fearless and empowered women who reject toxic masculinity and the repressive pressure exerted by a patriarchal society that routinely weaponizes sexual freedom to subjugate women and those who identify as different.
Its themes about feeling like an outsider and an alienated, awkward socially different person resonate with my own feelings, experiences and observations of life.
So, to all you amazing survivors out there, I hope you feel seen, empowered, inspired, heard, and encouraged.
“For whatever happened...it is NOT MY FAULT.”
