I made YOU CAN'T GIVE UP to show the dangers that some black teenagers face and to tell the story of one young man named Kobie. He wanted to avoid the fate of two of his brothers, who went to prison. I was impressed by Kobie's determination, despite setbacks, and by his close relationship with a kind and wise mentor named Anell.
