As part of SMHAF, the second Youth Mental Health Arts Festival is taking place in Paisley on 25th & 26th May 2019.

Create Paisley’s youth panel “Young Creators” are curating this year's Youth Mental Health Arts Festival, and are running an arts competition on the festival’s theme of “CONNECTED” in relation to young people and mental health.

Create are accepting pieces from the following categories:
-CREATIVE WRITING
-PHOTOGRAPHY
-FILMMAKING

Youth Arts Competition as part of the Youth Mental Health Arts Festival is supported by Create Paisley - A youth arts charity offering open mic nights, high quality arts workshops, youth forum and much more.

-The top ten entries from each category will be decided by the Young Creators, and shortlisted finalists will be invited to an award evening during the festival, and the top 3 will be announced

-£100 voucher for top winners

-10 shortlisted winners of the Creative Writing category will work alongside a professional illustrator to produce illustrations to compliment their piece

-All shortlisted winners will appear in a booklet available at the festival to promote their work

-All 30 shortlisted pieces will be exhibited at the Youth Mental Health Arts Festival at Paisley Arts Centre on 25th & 26th May 2019.

By entering the YMHAF competition you confirm that you agree to the following Terms & Conditions:

-Entry to the competition is free

-Entrants must be aged between 12-25 and living in Scotland

-Entries must be on the theme of “CONNECTED”

-Entries must be the entrant’s own original work

-We are open to multiple entries from the same person/group

-Creative Writing Entry Word Count: Poems up to 40 lines
Short stories between 500 and 1500 words

-Film Entry: 10 minutes maximum

-Photography: High quality JPEG file

-The deadline to submit films is the 19th March. The shortlisted winners will be contacted by the 25th March. If you have not heard by that date then you have not been successful. Due to a high number of entries we cannot provide individual feedback.

-The top 10 shortlisted winners from each category will be expected to attend the festival on Sunday 26th May 2019.

-No responsibility can be accepted for entries that are lost or delayed, or which are not received for any reason.

-By entering the competition the nominees agrees to participate in such promotional activity and material as YMHAF and Create may require.

-By entering you are agreeing to be published in any media or subsequent anthologies associated with the competition as approved by CREATE PAISLEY however copyright of any work submitted remains with the author.

-Incorrectly or inappropriate/upsetting content entries will be disqualified.

-It is the responsibility of the artist to ensure that all relevant rights and permissions are secured. The artist indemnifies the festival against any and all claims regarding copyright, etc.

  • The festival was great for its first year of the Youth Festival. The films were shown and prizes were given. Although I would have suggested perhaps creating a wider network with the festival for next year if they decide to go forward, sharing more etc. Build views and partnerships. :)
