Director Statement

XVI. TOWER plays with the idea of translating the sixteenth Tarot card, which depicts the ablaze tower, as a surreal short story while retaining the open interpretation of the card: an unforeseen seismic shift, abrupt change, and the upheaval of established life constructs. In the span of a single day, our protagonist finds his grasp on reality slipping, as a tower personifying an alien-like entity commences an exchange. This tale explores the fragility of our perception, perhaps reflecting a very modern sentiment that accompanies us in our daily lives nowadays.
The fact that the film was shot as a Virtual Production project at the „Halo Stage“ in Babelsberg instead of a real life hotel adds to that illusion.
