Maddie Root is a rising senior in the selective Television and Film Arts program at SUNY Buffalo State University, set to graduate in 2024. She has a passion for the artistic and technical processes of making movies, from start to finish, and finds herself thriving within the chaos of film production. Maddie enjoys both digital and traditional forms of art and entertainment, and attempts to keep these mediums alive by collecting old vinyls, throwing on pottery wheels, and developing photos from her well-loved 35mm camera.
This film started as a joke, but quickly turned serious. It stemmed from the social media trend of people asking their significant other if they would still be loved if they were a worm. When thinking about my own relationship, which is long distance for most of the year, I grew sentimental. I penned a poem from the perspective of Gregor Samsa, Franz Kafka’s fictional character who turns into a life-size cockroach. Would he still be loved as a cockroach, would I still be loved as a worm?
This film is essentially a love letter, just a really strange one.
