For more than 100 years, the Ruhr area has been the industrial heart of the Kaiserreich, the Third Reich, and finally also of West-Germany. But meanwhile, coal, fire and steel are not so important any more (or are provided by the Chinese). Unfortunately there are not so mayn signs of renaissance by new technologies, working places, possibiliteis for people to make a living. Most of the cities are more and more run down, poverty and social problems grow.

Director Biography - Daniel Burkholz

Daniel Burkholz is an award winning filmmaker. He first worked as journalist for newspaper and radio, as editor of a scientific magazine and also as photographer. Later, he worked in the fields of environment protection, education, human and civil rights. After an intermezzo as divemaster, he studied the culture of the Sinai nomads, the nomads of the Great Thar desert, and the Aborigine's culture in Queensland. He has already been travelling for more than 25 years and in 2005, he founded his company Roadside Dokumentarfilm. MeanwhileThe Roadside docs have been officially selected for more than 70 film festivals around the globe...

Director Statement

For over 20 years I was also basedin the Ruhr-Area, so I know the rehion and the people quite well. But sadly enough. since alll this years. there were no signs of a change, positive energy, that the institutions and the people would be able to fight against the decline.
