Caminero
An intimate journey of the wandering life and work of the Chilean painter Francisco Ariztía settled in Portugal for more than 40 years, directed by his son.
Francisco Ariztía works daily in his atelier in the Lisbon neighborhood "Bairro Sāo Miguel". Almost as Portuguese as the Portuguese, he lives in Portugal since the Democratic Revolution in the early 1970's, and more than 30 years later his son starts portraying him through the lens of an intimate journey.
Born in Santiago de Chile in 1943, Francisco Ariztía crossed paths, worked and settled friendship with artists such as Roberto Matta and Raul Ruiz. They all lived abroad. A generation of the Chilean art scene that needed to look at Europe for references and to breathe.
As both father and son suggest scenes and correct each other in order to get different moments into the film, the artistic processes and the intrinsic family relations come into play. Just as Nobody's Business but slower.
A master of painting that lived in Chile, France, former Yugoslavia, Italy and Portugal, that flew from a violent military coup d'état in Chile, that found his masters in Europe, has settled in Portugal where time stood still and still is.
But the journey of the painter never ends, and his work is still a w(o)ander.
