Our goal is to help women succeed in the industry through mentorship, networking and by promoting and supporting new work by women.

We are looking for standout screenplays by women. The competition awards the writer who pushes the boundaries of cinema with her original, nuanced characters and dynamic storytelling and dialogue. There are no limitations on content or genre. The main character does not have to be female, but the screenwriter does.

Cash awards for first and second prize winners, as well as a Skype pitch with an executive and pitch preparation for the winning entry.

First Place Award:
$1,000
Pitch prep coaching and a Skype pitch to a genre-appropriate executive.

Second Place Award:
$500
Notes and screenplay coverage.

8 finalists will receive screenplay coverage and judges' notes.

Quite simply, the writer must be a woman or female identified. There are no regulations on content or genre. If you are writing in a team, at least 50% of your team must be women.

No entrant may have earned money or other consideration as a screenwriter for theatrical films or television, or for the sale of, or sale of an option to, any original story, treatment, screenplay, or teleplay for more than $5,000.

Entrants must be 18 years or older to enter the contest.

The rights to the submitted screenplay should not have been previously optioned or sold.

Screenplay submissions should be in the U.S. Motion Picture industry standard screenplay format and must be between 80-130 pages in length. Submissions can be from any country in the world, but must be written in the English language.

Screenplay submissions must be the original work of the applicant and may not be based, in whole or in part, on any other fictional or non-fictional material, published or unpublished, produced or unproduced for which the writer does not have rights, excepting those works that are in the public domain.

Entries may be adapted from the applicant's original work, works in the public domain, and from works to which the author owns all film rights—this should be noted in the entry form. If the script is based on a true story, historical or contemporary, that should be noted in the entry form.

Under no circumstances will substitutions of corrected pages or new drafts of submitted screenplays be accepted. Entry fees will not be returned or adjusted.

Collaborative work is accepted. One of the writing partners should be selected as the prime contact. Writing partners selected as winners will divide the award equally.

Entrants must submit screenplays and payment online.

Screenplays must be submitted in PDF format with a title page. Files must have the applicant's name in the title.

Definitely submit to Women In Cinema International Screenplay Competition because opportunities like these do not come around often - judges begging for original content and storytelling - judges who INSIST that the screenwriter be a woman. YES! Finally a competition that will showcase winners both in MONETARY awards, prizes and coverage for a nominal submission fee. Finally a team begging for a woman's POV.
