On the surface Witched is a whimsical snippet about a book club that learns how to cast spells and mix potions.
However, it also considers the question of what would happen if, through magical intervention, power in the world were to shift from the masculine to the feminine? Rather than smashing the patriarchy, Witched explores the notion that women would make the world more peaceful, verdant and kind, and that they could do it without being noticed.
Witched also looks at labels, such as “witch,” that associate women in power as being negative and ugly. Before setting out to change the world, the women and their culture embrace the term and then are freed to become strong, effective, and beautiful as they work their magic.
