When writing Wisp Way I was inspired by magic. I have always been enamoured with the idea of making beautiful, magical animation that coincided with emotional and mysterious storytelling. The themes of the story are family and forgiveness, guilt and regret, and I wanted to marry these themes with a fantastical element. Researching wisps and their different historical interpretations, I was taken by the concepts of the wisps being souls of loved ones passed and leading travellers through the dark. From there I created Charlie and Amy, two siblings who would be led on a journey by a playful wisp. Amy was the sibling who often felt left out during her childhood and Charlie was the one who took it for granted. Both of them blame each other for the state of their family, and both of them are mourning the loss of their brother after all these years.
