Director Biography - Lynette Esparza

Lynette Esparza is a LATINX filmmaker originally from Victorville, CA. Her film "Wishful Thinking" is her 1st film and official directorial debut before moving to the Bay Area where she currently attends San Francisco State University. She volunteers at the ARTISTS TELEVISION ACCESS, a safe space for filmmakers/ creatives to hold events and build community and is hosting and event coordinating for THE GREAT FILM CLUB (@thegreatfilmclub ) as it opens its new chapter from LA, NYC, to the BAY AREA after reaching 50k followers. She is now in pre- production for her first feature film that will come out in 2024 !

Director Statement

"Wishful Thinking" is my first film and my DIRECTORIAL DEBUT, I began preproduction when I was just 17 years old and directed it when I turned 18. At such a young age I knew immediately what message I wanted to say to portray in this film. My goal was to raise awareness about drug usage, the trauma and affects of growing up in specific surroundings, and how easy it is to unconsciously become the things or people we detest most. I wanted viewers to see that this is the life of many teenage girls around the world that are not as represented.
