Wish Weasel

In this campy 90s sci-fi fantasy, a magical weasel crash lands in Queens and befriends a girl who’s down on her luck. They must work together to defeat his evil brother to save Queens (and the Earth).

After landing in Queens, the Wish Weasel meets a young woman named Tabitha and grants her a wish for a new apartment. The wish is then sensed by the evil Wishomite’s wish computer in the dark universe. General Zorgo, leader of the Wishomites, declares that they will travel to Earth and torture everyone with evil wishes and kill the Wish Weasel.

Wish Weasel’s Space friend, Space Detective, learns of General Zorgo’s apocalyptic plan from a boy with a magical book that tells the story of the presently occuring universe. Wish Weasel, Space Detective, and Tabitha need to figure out how to stop General Zorgo from enslaving Earth. General Zorgo travels to Queens and Wish Weasel learns how to use Wish Cards and has a card battle with General Zorgo in Astoria Park.

Wish Weasel has been nominated for the Test Card Pilot Award at the Edinburgh TV Festival New Voice Awards. It is the only American pilot nominated.

When I was a kid I wanted to make my own TV show. I would make videos and animations on my computer at home with my friends. In 2017 I underwent a liver transplant for a rare, untreatable bile duct disease. Wish Weasel will be the first project I have completed since recovering from a serious illness that impacted my life for a decade. Now that I’m doing much better, I decided this year I would make the show I wanted to make as a kid because life is short.

Wish Weasel is partially inspired by what I watched as a child in the 80s/90s. It's partially inspired by the everyday struggles of living in a big city. It's a funny, ironic parody of children's shows from the U.S. and Japan. I was also inspired by the recent 80s/90s resurgence with vaporwave and synthwave music. The music is inspired by the past but is modernized, fun, and indie.

While in production, I realized this script was a much bigger undertaking than I had originally thought. Having a large amount of FX shots was a great challenge to take on. Wish Weasel showcases my abilities as a visual effects artist, writer, and showrunner. Our production team and budget were small but it was a blast to work on Wish Weasel! I hope the audience laughs at the characters and enjoys the silly adventure.
