Winter is Alive!

"Winter is Alive!" is a poetic documentary about Winter is Alive! A Cooler World Carnival, which was held in Madison WI in late Winter, 2021. Through the voices of the organizers and artists, the doc tells the story of the festival and explores climate change in Madison as the center of its creative focus.

"Winter is Alive!" is produced by the Madison Arts Commission and the Edna Wiechers Arts in Wisconsin Award.

Winter is Alive! a cooler world carnival was a multi-disciplinary event fusing art and spectacle to reenvision the climate crisis and activate global relationships. The month-long winter carnival featured online events and forums including performance art and spoken word projects, an international curatorial exchange and climate discussions between artists, scientists and activists. Onsite projects featured site-specific installations and interactive sculptures, performance events, happenings and pop-up exhibitions installed on the frozen lakes and landscapes of Madison, WI. Participation included local, national and international artists, professional and amateur creatives and both grade school and university students. The goal of Winter is Alive! was to create opportunities for personal reflection, environmental dialogue, and provocative inspiration to inspire action on the climate crisis.
