Diana is a graphic designer with a degree in "Communication Design", and a Master's in “Image Design” at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. Art has always been a way of expressing desires, feelings and experiences. A way to convert a feeling to other media. For her, cinema is the magic of imagination coming to life on screen, where stories intertwine with emotions and transport us to unexplored worlds, awakening our imagination and enriching our understanding of the world.
This short film departs from the universe of real and animated images. It is a combination of the real and the unreal; of realism, with fantasy; of the natural with the artificial, and a mixture of languages between aesthetic and semantic terms. This contains a series of animations, focusing on the animal world as the protagonist, which lives in our world, in a natural way. This world, filmed entirely with shots of real scenarios. This alliance with our world is a useful tool in the process of expressing it distinctly through design. Even without dialogue or narration, the viewer would be able to understand the story I tell through the facial and body expressions of the characters and animals illustrated, as well as the state of mind, through the environment in which they are inserted. There is constant permanence of ambient sounds, sound effects and sounds of animal life. This served to offer more rhythm and context to the story. The sound design focuses on the ecosystem, with the addition of sound effects, sometimes comical, that allow to enrich the action, offering fun and identity to these actions. The music adds to the joy and life, and makes the flow of this short. It is not characterized by a conventional story with a beginning, middle and end, but the coexistence of small moments and fragments. Each scene presents an animal wrapped in the human environment, performing unusual actions for these types of living beings, sometimes taken to the absurd. The aim is to highlight exaggeration, extremes and metamorphosis. The most valuable aspect of animation is the fact that it allows us to play with exaggeration, and the guiding principle for a more abstract path, something that we can hardly achieve in real life. This animation is therefore a “metaphor” art and is perfect for all types of staging, to show different perspectives and ideas about the culture we live in. This short film is about the joy of bringing an illustration to life.
