Director Statement

WHY DIDN´T ANYONE TOLD ME? is a story that was born in the wild, it was not an idea that I thought of and that I developed, it was born in 2022, in the city of Barcelona, ​​while I was going through a dark period of depression and anxiety; Two Catalan directors and I started the project of making a collaborative film between three directors, three stories that take place in Barcelona.

I wanted to write about other topics, but depression only let me write about what I was going through at the time, so I filmed my segment about how I met a girl on Tinder and how, without looking for it, she helped me start to get out of depression.

That was supposed to be it, but the other two directors decided to produce their shorts individually and the feature film project ended there.

A lot of things happened in my life since that filming, I didn't want to make a short film, so I decided to tell what I've been going through since then, above all, how I overcame anxiety, self-doubt, and the fear of being able to relate to other women because of a toxic relationship and a lot of psychological violence.

For two years I suffered a smear campaign by my ex, supported by feminist groups in several countries. In the process, I had to give her the credit as co-director of my previous feature film. Since then, she has been dedicated to screening the film and later giving a talk explaining how she recovered the credits from her “abuser” and “how she survived me.”

Although I shot this film with no other intention than to tell my story and close a cycle, I firmly believe that WHY DIDN´T ANYONE TOLD ME? will serve to generate conversations about human relationships above and beyond gender.
