"Who's To Say This Will Make More Sense the Next Time Through"
This aerial dance film examines life with chronic illness & seeks to communicate the experience of those in the chronic pain community.
We began by gathering stories from 20 individuals who live with various chronic conditions. Audra Almond-Harvey, a writer & performance artist with a number of chronic illnesses, meditated on those stories & wrote a “love letter to patients & healers”. Then musician Dan Wright, another artist with a chronic condition, composed an underscore that beautifully supports Audra’s words.
During the live premiere of the piece in June 2022, an intense flare related to choreographer & director Rebekah Hampton Barger's own chronic health issues kept her from performing. But in a testament to the power of community, the rest of the cast rallied to build an alternate version & the show went on.
Filmmaker Michael Mallicote & Rebekah created this film as a composite to reflect both the original choreography & the beautiful ways in which the rest of the dancers stepped in to hold space for Rebekah &, by extension, the chronic pain community as a whole.

In 2010 Rebekah Hampton Barger left work with Perpetual Motion Dance & the Oklahoma City Ballet to move to Nashville & found FALL, the city’s first aerial dance company.
Drawing on her multi-disciplinary background ranging from ballet to martial arts to rhythmic gymnastics, Rebekah’s work blends classical & contemporary dance, using aerial fabric & invented structures to create new possibilities & challenge dancers to experience gravity in new ways.
She has created commissions for the Nashville Symphony, abrasiveMedia, Nashville Ballet, & OZ Arts, with successful implementation of many large scale projects including original theatrical productions & site-specific installations. Rebekah's work can also be seen in music videos for Humming House, Ryan Beaver, Kat Jones & The Prophets, Timbre, & Genuine Joy.
