Lusiné Mehrabyan likes to tell sharp, satirical stories that make the invisible visible - exploring social, economic, political issues with humour, wit and irony to reveal hidden dynamics. With a background in economics and public policy from the London School of Economics and professional experience at organisations like the OECD’s anti-corruption unit, Lusiné brings a perspective to her storytelling that blends a deep understanding of societal and political issues.
Transitioning from policy to the arts, Lusiné honed her craft as a designer at the renowned Oscar winning visual effects studio Framestore, where she contributed to creating tools for cinematic storytelling.
Who In Their Right Mind marks Lusiné’s debut as a filmmaker, showcasing her ability to combine wit, satire, and compelling visuals to craft a story that strikes a chord in today’s times.
The idea for Who In Their Right Mind came from a simple yet provocative question: “What if anyone who wanted to become prime minister went to therapy first?” It’s a question that unravels the absurdity of how we entrust the world’s most significant decisions to individuals who often seem more in need of emotional healing than power.
Through this film, I wanted to explore the strange paradox of modern leadership—a realm where those who seek validation, control, and attention often rise to the top, while those who might lead with empathy and self-awareness are sidelined. It’s a system that seems to value charisma over character and bravado over introspection. In many ways, this film is my way of asking: why do we enable this, and what might a better system look like?
At its heart, Who In Their Right Mind is a satire, leaning into the ridiculousness of a world run by wounded people. By placing a narcissistic leader on the therapist’s couch, I wanted to reveal the wounded humanity beneath yet show how it could be twisted into a stage for ego, manipulation and power games.
The film combines humour, wit, and a touch of absurdity to provoke reflection on the systems we’ve built and the people we allow to dominate them. It’s usually people who are in pain that end up causing pain to others, and yet we’ve designed structures that reward precisely this. If this sounds preposterous, that’s because it is—and I hope this film makes people question the status quo.
My hope is that Who In Their Right Mind will encourage viewers to think about how we choose our leaders and whether it’s time to rethink the traits we celebrate in power.
