When the Words Change
A young man stands on a balcony,
Misty eyes, he is losing sleep
He doesn't know what went wrong.
Yesterday is a memory,
Though his laughter sounded sweet
They're just bells in a distant song.
He goes to his bed, feet as heavy as lead
That old familiar tune caught in his head
It’s so strange when all the words change
When you thought you knew the game
One day you wake up and nothing feels the same
And you have to find your place again
An old man stands in a living room
Engulfed in dark, quiet as a tomb
He thought he’d seen it all before
He knows this space, but it feels new
Yesterday, he was one of two
Can’t stop time, he just wants more
He sits in her chair, though he’s heavy as lead,
The velvet, worn and creased, cradles his head
It’s so strange when (all) the words change
Just when you thought you knew everything
One day you wake up and nothing feels the same
And you have to find your place again.
