Experiencing Interruptions?

When the Bees Don't Buzz

Bees are a necessity when it comes to producing fresh food, however, in recent years their numbers have diminished, and nothing has been done to change this. If the bees go extinct, we will lose about 2/3 of our food sources. This film looks at the causes and effects of colony collapse disorder.

Director Statement

I have been connected to beekeeping ever since my family decided to buy an avocado grove. We all had to learn how to take care of our own bees, which came with its own challenges. After a few years, we noticed that no matter how well we thought we were keeping the bees, they kept disappearing or dying. The cause is Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). My family and I have made a commitment to utilizing healthy farm practices, such as not using harmful pesticides, to help the bees stay happy and healthy. When it came time to make my senior documentary thesis, I knew I wanted to make something that would educate everyone on this ongoing bee crisis. This story not only affects me, but everyone in the U.S. who wants to continue buying fresh produce, because we need our pollinators.
