Alexandra Kurt, born in 1997, studied at the film school "BTS- Cinéma et Audiovisuel" in Luxembourg after graduating from secondary school. Since 2019, she has been studying feature film directing at the University of Television and Film Munich. For her work as a director and screenwriter, she received the "deutscher Jugendfilmpreis" and the European media award "Prix Europa" for best new talent. Her short films have been presented at various international festivals, including the "44. Filmfestival Max Ophüls Preis". In 2022, her short film August und die Hasenohren was screened at the A-Festival "PÖFF" in Tallinn, Estonia.
Born in the south of Luxembourg, Joshua Thil is a filmmaker and screenwriter with a strong passion for storytelling. He began his formal training at “BTS – Cinéma et Audiovisuel” in Luxembourg, where he wrote and directed his first two student films. In 2020, served as a jury member for the Giornate degli Autori selection before further honing his craft by studying screenwriting at the Vancouver Film School. In 2023, his third film, "Ech Hunn Dech", premiered at the Luxembourg City Film Festival. The following year, he collaborated with Alexandra Kurt to create the short film "Wat deng Aen mir soen", joined Samsa Film’s writers’ room for the second season of "Marginal" created by Frédéric Zeimet, and co-wrote "Huss", the latest short film by Laurent Prim.
Although we have been friends for years — Alexandra in Munich and Joshua in Vancouver — life never quite aligned for us to collaborate until this summer. What began as a small idea, a playful 24-hour challenge to write, direct, and edit a short film together, quickly grew into something more. In the midst of editing, we sensed it was no longer just a simple exercise. Thus, we extended our one-day timeline and devoted ourselves to a proper post-production, eager to share our work on the film festival circuit.
We are both drawn to queer themes and felt that a familiar, universally shared moment was the perfect story to tell within our constraints. Not every scene needs grandeur, even on the big screen. Quiet, often unnoticed moments deserve their own space too. And so, What Your Eyes Are Telling Me was born — a collaboration of young local artists bound by a shared passion.
